Israel treats Palestinians like human animals and detains them unjustly. Political leader Marwan Barghouti, imprisoned in an Israeli jail for 23 years, was recently tortured, prompting his family to fear for his life and appeal for an international campaign for his release. His release campaign, which has drawn comparisons to Nelson Mandela in Palestine, has garnered support from over 200 international cultural figures, including renowned actors.

안녕하세요. 저는 2002년부터 수감 중인 지도자 마르완 바르구티의 아들, 아랍 바르구티입니다.
먼저, 이스라엘 감옥에서 무슨 일이 벌어지고 있는지 간단히 말씀드리고 싶습니다.
[2023년] 10월 7일부터 오늘까지 이스라엘 감옥 안은 지옥과 같은 상황에 놓여 있습니다. 수감자들이 표적이 되었고, 약 100명에 가까운 수감자들이 다양한 방식으로 사망했습니다. 의료 방치, 구타, 굶주림으로 인해 목숨을 잃었습니다. 이 모든 일들이 이스라엘 감옥 안에서 벌어지고 있습니다.
오늘날 그들은 전 세계의 목소리와 연대가 절실히 필요합니다. 왜냐하면 약 1만 명에 가까운 팔레스타인 수감자가 있으며, 이는 곧 1만 개의 팔레스타인 가족이 지옥 같은 삶을 살고 있다는 뜻이기 때문입니다. 자녀들에게 무슨 일이 벌어지고 있는지 알지 못한 채 매일 두려움 속에서 살아가고 있으며, 가족 면회도 금지되고, 많은 권리가 박탈되어 있습니다.
제 아버지 마르완 바르구티는 물론 팔레스타인 지도자입니다. 그는 10월 7일 이후 표적이 되었고, 여러 차례 공격과 폭행을 당했습니다. 2023년 말, 2024년 3월, 2024년 9월, 그리고 2025년 9월에도 폭행이 있었습니다. 이 모든 일은 석방된 수감자들의 증언으로 기록되었습니다. 그들은 감옥 안에서 벌어진 끔찍한 상황들, 특히 폭행 사례에 대해 우리에게 이야기해 주었습니다.
아버지는 지난 50년 동안 팔레스타인 민족의 자유를 위해 투쟁해 왔고, 이 지역의 평화와 안정을 위해 노력해 왔습니다. 그 과정에서 30년간 수감되었고, 7년간 팔레스타인에서 추방되기도 했습니다.
그의 메시지는 분명합니다. 그는 팔레스타인 아이들이 안전과 평화 속에서 살아가기를 꿈꿉니다. 그리고 부모들이 평생 자녀를 걱정하며 두려워하지 않기를 바랍니다.
그는 항상 말합니다. “나의 메시지는 다음 세대의 팔레스타인 사람들이 내가 살았고 우리 세대가 겪었던 그 힘든 삶을 반복하지 않도록 하는 것이었다”고요.
그는 점령 속에서 자랐지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 평화를 믿습니다. 정의를 믿고, 평등을 믿습니다. 무엇보다도 팔레스타인 민족의 권리를 믿습니다. 자유, 자기결정권, 그리고 존엄과 정의 속에서 살아갈 권리 말입니다.
우리는 팔레스타인 문제에 대한 지지가 곧 정의와 자유, 그리고 전 세계에서 우리가 모두 싸우고 있는 모든 가치에 대한 지지라고 믿습니다.
그것은 팔레스타인만의 문제가 아닙니다.
우리는 모두가 투쟁의 길을 계속 이어가고, 목소리를 낼 수 없는 팔레스타인 수감자들을 대신해 목소리를 높여 주기를 바랍니다. 가자에서 우리 가족들이 겪은 인종학살 이후, 모두가 지금 팔레스타인에서 가장 시급한 우선순위, 즉 가자의 우리 가족들과 그들의 고통을 알리는 데 함께 서 있어야 합니다.
마지막으로 말씀드리고 싶습니다.
우리가 전 세계적인 지지를 보지 못할 때, 우리는 스스로를 외롭다고 느낍니다. 하지만 여러분의 자유로운 목소리 덕분에 우리는 희망이 있다는 것을 느끼게 됩니다.

Hello. I am Arab Barghouti, son of leader Marwan Barghouti, who has been imprisoned since 2002.
I’d like to start by telling you what’s happening inside the Israeli prisons.
Since October 7th 2023, Israeli prisons have been in hellish conditions. Prisoners were targeted and almost 100 prisoners were killed in various ways. They were killed due to medical neglect, beatings, and starvation. All of this is happening inside the Israeli prison.
Today they desperately need the voices of the world and solidarity. Because there are nearly 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, which means 10,000 Palestinian families are living through hell. These prisoners are living under fear everyday, not knowing what’s happening to their children, prohibited from family visits, and many of their lives have been stripped away.
My father, Marwan Barghouti is of course a leader of Palestinians. He became a target after October 7th and was assaulted and beaten many times.
There were assaults in late 2023, March 2024, September 2024, and September 2025. All of this was recorded through testimonies from the released prisoners. They told us about the horrible situations inside the prisons, especially about the cases of beatings.
My father has fought for the freedom of Palestinian people for the past 5 decades, doing everything he could to install peace and stabilization of this region. While doing so, he was imprisoned for 30 years and exiled from Palestine for 7 years.
His message is clear. He dreams of Palestinian children living under safety and peace. And he hopes parents never have to worry about their children, living in fear for the rest of their lives.
He always says: “My message is that the next generation of Palestinians should not repeat the difficult life that I lived and our generation endured.”
He was raised under the occupation, and yet he believes in peace. He believes in justice and equality. And above all, he believes in the Palestinian people’s right. Right to freedom, self-determination, and the right to live with dignity and justice.
We believe that supporting Palestinians means supporting the justice, freedom, and every other values we are fighting for across the world.
This is not just a matter of Palestinians only.
We hope that all of you continue our path of struggle, and voice out on behalf of the Palestinian prisoners who are voiceless. After the genocide our families endured in Gaza, everyone must now stand together to make known the most urgent priority in Palestine today—our families in Gaza and their suffering.
Finally, I want to say this. When we don’t see global support, we feel isolated. But thanks to your free voice, we can feel that there’s hope.
And by god willing, I hope someday my father walks out of the prison.
