‘팔레스타인인들과 연대하는 사람들’은 주한 이스라엘 대사관의 반인륜적인 행태를 규탄하는 긴급 기자회견을 열었습니다.

On June 9, the Israeli embassy in South Korea held an “Independence Day” banquet — even as Israel’s massacre and blockade in Gaza have pushed people to the brink of famine.
In response, People in Solidarity with Palestinians held an emergency press conference to condemn the inhumane actions of the Israeli embassy in South Korea.
Below are the speeches and statement delivered at the press conference.

다른 많은 분들과 마찬가지로 분노하며 이 자리에 함께하고 있습니다. 저뿐 아니고 수많은 의료인들이 느끼는 참담함과 분노의 마음을 함께하며 참여했습니다.
지금 이 순간, 가자지구는 역사상 최악의 기아상태입니다. 가자에 사는 210만 명 전체가 심각한 식량 부족을 겪고 있고, 약 47만 명은 국제분류 상 ‘재앙’단계의 기아 상태에 처해 있습니다.
의사들은 ‘이제는 살이 오른 아기를 볼 수 없다’고 말합니다. 많은 아기들이 저체중, 조산아로 태어나고 있고 성장장애를 겪고 있습니다.
재앙 단계의 기근이 역사에서 없었던 건 아닙니다. 그러나 주로 그것은 내전이나 가뭄 등으로 인해 파생된 기근이었습니다. 반면에 가자에서 벌어지는 기근은 이스라엘이 국경을 봉쇄하고 구호를 차단해 의도적으로 유발한 기아라는 차이가 있습니다. 이것은 기근이 아니고 의도된 대량학살입니다.
5세 미만 가자지구 아동의 24%, 특히 가자 북부지역은 47%가 급성 영양실조입니다. 의학적으로 사망 위험이 높고 사망하지 않더라도 매우 심각한 후유증을 남길 수 있는 상태입니다. 그런데 이스라엘군이 가자지구 병원을, 특히 북가자에선 모든 병원을 파괴했습니다. 그래서 중증 영양실조에 처한 사람들도 치료를 받을 수 없습니다.
이것을 말 그대로 제2의 나크바이고, 팔레스타인인들을 완전히 말살해버리겠다는 잔혹한 이스라엘의 범죄행위입니다.
그런 이스라엘이 오늘, 팔레스타인인들에겐 1948년의 나크바를 의미하는 소위 ‘독립기념일’축하 만찬을 벌인다는 데 어떻게 분노하지 않을 수 있겠습니까? 이것은 가자지구 주민들을 학살한 피 위에서 벌어지는 축제입니다. 기아로 숨져가는 팔레스타인인들에 대한 조롱이고, 이스라엘의 잔혹함을 보여주는 잔치인 것입니다.
특히 오늘은 그레타 툰베리와 많은 사람들이 이 가자의 인도적 위기를 세계에 알리고자 구호물품을 들고서 가자지구 진입을 시도했다가 이스라엘군에 나포된 날입니다. 이 행사가 그 누구의 규탄도 방해도 저항도 없이 치러진다면 이 땅의 모든 양심 있는 사람들에게 모욕적인 일일 것입니다.
세계의 수많은 사람들이 분노하고 규탄하고 있듯이 이스라엘의 인종학살은 결코 정당성을 가지지 못하고 있고, 성공할 수 없을 것입니다.
우리는 이 부도덕한 잔치에 참여한 모든 사람들과 이스라엘 정부한테 저항을 결코 멈추지 않을 거라고 경고합니다. 팔레스타인이 해방될 때까지 싸우리라는 우리의 의지를 담아 구호를 외치겠습니다.

역겹고도 역겹습니다! 가자에서 230만 명이 굶어 죽고 있습니다. 이스라엘은 인도주의적 지원마저 봉쇄하고 팔레스타인인들을 굶겨 죽이고 있습니다. 그런 학살을 벌여놓고 만찬이 웬말입니까? 목구멍에 밥이 넘어갑니까?
오늘 만찬은 이스라엘이 소위 건국일을 축하하는 의미가 있다고 합니다. 이스라엘의 건국은 전혀 축하할 일이 아닙니다. 이스라엘은 팔레스타인 사람들의 땅을 빼앗기 위해 팔레스타인에 왔고, 수십만명을 학살하고 쫓아낸 폐허 위에 이스라엘 국가를 세웠습니다.
이스라엘은 식민지 점령국가입니다. 결코 정상적인 국가가 아닙니다. 이스라엘을 건국한 시온주의자들은 팔레스타인인들과 공존하려고 팔레스타인에 온 것이 아닙니다. 오히려 이들은 나치와 협력하고, 서방의 유대인 혐오자들과 공조해 갈 곳 없는 유대인들이 팔레스타인으로 향하게 만들었습니다.
이스라엘은 수백만명의 팔레스타인인들에 대한 일상적인 학살과 억압 위에서만 작동하는 국가입니다. 이번 전쟁 속에서 이스라엘 국가의 그런 진면목이 만천하에 드러났고, 수억명의 사람들이 이스라엘의 인종학살에 분개하고 있습니다. 이 중에는 유대인들도 있습니다. 수많은 유대인들이 인종 학살을 유대인의 이름으로 하지 말라고 외치고 있습니다. 이스라엘은 결코 유대인을 대표하지 않습니다.
오늘 만찬을 주도한 주한 이스라엘 대사관과 대사 라파엘 하르페즈는 이스라엘 국가가 벌이고 있는 명백한 인종학살, 전쟁 범죄의 책임을 팔레스타인인들의 독립 투사들과 평범한 사람들의 탓으로 돌리는 프로파간다를 한국 사회에 퍼트려 온 자 입니다.
이스라엘 대사관은 한국의 극우단체와도 연관이 깊습니다. 서울대에서 윤석열 탄핵 반대 집회를 주도했던 트루스포럼이 주최한 보수주의 컨퍼런스에서 이스라엘 대사가 발언을 하기도 하고, 트루스포럼이 이스라엘 지지 성명을 내자 이스라엘 대사관이 직접 트루스포럼에 방문해 감사 인사를 전하기도 했습니다.
이런 끔찍한 만찬에 좋다고 달려 온 한국의 기업주 정치인 대학 인사들도 규탄합니다. 당신들은 이스라엘 한국 대표자의 피 묻은 손을 맞잡은 것입니다. 이스라엘의 첨단 기술과 무기 산업 기술이 그렇게도 탐이 납니까? 그 기술들은 팔레스타인인들을 대상으로 한 끔찍한 소위 ‘실전 테스트’ 속에서 발전해왔습니다.
저희 동아리가 기반을 두고 있는 연세대학교의 학교 당국도 책임에서 자유롭지 않습니다. 연세대학교 윤동섭 총장은 지난 3월 이스라엘 대사를 학교에 초청하고 이스라엘 대학과 학술 교류를 확대하자고 말했습니다. 이스라엘 교육 기관은 학살의 공범이자 주범입니다. 수많은 이스라엘 대학이 직접적, 간접적 형태로 이스라엘 군대와 협력해왔습니다. 이 이스라엘 군대는 팔레스타인인들의 학교를 중무장 센터로 규정하고 폭격하고 있습니다. 가자지구 학교의 70%는 이스라엘 군대에 의해 공격 당했습니다. 팔레스타인인들을 절멸시키는 것을 연구해온 이스라엘 교육기관과 교류해 무엇을 얻겠다는 말입니까? 연세대학교 윤동섭 총장을 비롯해 이스라엘 대변자의 피 묻은 손을 맞잡는 한국 기업과 정치인, 대학들을 규탄합니다.
한국의 대학생들은 지난 5월 15일 시온주의자들이 이스라엘을 건국하며 자행한 대재앙을 추념하는 집회를 신촌에서 열었습니다. 수 많은 유인물들이 학생들의 지지 속에 배포됐고, 학생들의 응원 속에서 신촌 거리를 행진했습니다. 날이 갈수록 이스라엘이 학살 국가라는 것이 증명되고 있습니다. 한국에서 학살자 이스라엘과 그 동조자들에 대한 비판은 더욱 커질 것입니다. 대학생들이 이스라엘의 진면목을 들춰내고 팔레스타인의 대의의 목소리와 손과 발이 될 것입니다.
우리는 요르단강에서 지중해까지 팔레스타인의 광복이 올 때까지 팔레스타인인들과 연대하기를 멈추지 않을 것입니다.

지금 서울 시내 한복판에서 이스라엘 건국을 축하하는 자리가 열리고 있습니다. 정말이지 커다란 분노를 느끼지 않을 수 없습니다.
이 자리를 주최한 주한 이스라엘 대사관에 해 줄 말은 하나뿐입니다. 팔레스타인인 인종 학살을 중단하고, 이 땅에서 즉각 떠나십시오. 우리는 테러리스트 국가 이스라엘, 그 탄생을 결코 환영하지 않습니다.
주한 이스라엘 대사관은 이스라엘과 한국이 ‘안보 위기’라는 공통점이 있다고 강조합니다. 아마 오늘 저 만찬장에서도 비슷한 말을 늘어놓을 것입니다. 그러나 이는 이스라엘의 씻을 수 없는 특징, 바로 정착자 식민 국가라는 사실을 가리기 위한 연막입니다.
이스라엘 건국은 팔레스타인인 인종청소와 뗄 수 없는 관계에 있습니다. 많은 학자들과 글로벌 팔레스타인 연대 행동의 노력으로 갈수록 많은 한국인들이 이 사실을 알아가고 있습니다.
실제로, 2023년 연말에 이스라엘 대사관이 이른바 ‘서울 불바다 영상’을 만들어 동정 여론을 사려고 했지만 그 결과는 어땠습니까? 평범한 한국인들이 “우리는 이스라엘처럼 남의 땅 뺏지 않았다”고 거세게 항의해서 대사관 측은 스스로 영상을 내려야만 했습니다. 그야말로 창피한 ‘흑역사’입니다.
하마스 등 팔레스타인 저항 세력을 보며 일제에 맞선 무장 투쟁을 떠올리는 한국인들도 갈수록 많아지고 있습니다. 2년째 매주 이어지고 있는 팔레스타인 연대 행동을 통해서 우리는 그런 변화를 체감하고 있습니다. 한국은 이스라엘에 대한 비호감도가 가장 많이 올라간 나라이기도 합니다.
지금 전 세계 사람들이 이스라엘과의 모든 관계를 단절하라고 요구하고 있습니다. 반면 오늘 만찬에 참석하는 사람들은 이스라엘의 국방, 인공지능 기업과 거래하고, 국가 간 협력을 강화하길 바라고, 그럼으로써 이스라엘의 인종 학살을 지지하고 있는 것입니다. 비록 그들과 우리는 같은 한국땅에 있지만 공통점이 거의 없습니다. 오히려 우리는 이스라엘의 가자지구 봉쇄를 뚫기 위해 용감하게 항해한 그레타 툰베리 등 매들린 호의 활동가들과 더 큰 공통점을 갖고 있습니다.
이스라엘과 협력하는 세력은 그 누구도 정당화될 수 없습니다. 이는 이재명 정부 또한 마찬가지입니다.
오늘 저 만찬에 정부 또는 여당 관계자가 포함돼 있는지 저는 알지 못합니다. 그러나 이재명 대통령이 그간 이스라엘의 국방과 인공지능 산업에 대한 관심을 꾸준히 밝혀 왔고, 지난 2월에는 야당 대표로서 이스라엘 대사를 직접 만나 협력을 당부했음을 감안하면 그럴 공산이 충분하다고 생각됩니다. 만약 그렇다면 이는 진보적인 사회 변화 염원에 찬물을 끼얹는 행위일 것입니다.
그러나 이스라엘은 중동 평화를 위해, 유대인과 아랍인 그리고 모든 이들의 공존을 위해 사라져야 할 국가입니다. 이런 국가와의 협력을 추구할 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 이스라엘의 국제적 고립을 위해, 요르단강에서 지중해까지 팔레스타인의 독립을 위해 계속해서 투쟁할 것입니다.

이스라엘 ‘독립기념일’ 만찬 개최 규탄 기자회견:
인종청소 위에 세워진 이스라엘
팔레스타인 인종 학살 멈춰라! 가자 봉쇄 해제하라!
이스라엘은 그 시작부터 팔레스타인인에 대한 인종청소로 얼룩져 있다.
역사적 팔레스타인 땅에 유대인만의 배타적인 인종차별적 국가를 세운다는 시온주의 프로젝트로 1948년 당시 수많은 팔레스타인인들이 살해됐고, 100만 명에 달하는 팔레스타인인들이 고향에서 쫓겨났다. 소위 ‘독립기념일’은 이러한 끔찍한 범죄를 덮으려고 제정된 날이다.
이런 날을 부르는 더 적절한 명칭이 있다. 바로 나크바, 즉 재앙이다. 이스라엘 건국은 전혀 축하할 일이 아니다.
건국 이후 지난 77년의 역사는 이스라엘이 팔레스타인인 인종청소를 위해 수단과 방법을 가리지 않는 국가라는 것을 더 분명하게 드러냈다. 더욱이 2023년 10월 이후 지금까지 이스라엘은 팔레스타인인 5만 4000명 이상을 살해했다. 또한 구호품 반입을 일절 차단해 230만 명을 기아로 내몰고 있다.
바로 오늘, 이스라엘군은 구호품을 싣고 가자지구로 향하던 ’자유 선단 연합‘의 매들린 호를 나포하고, 그레타 툰베리 등 팔레스타인 연대 활동가 전원을 억류했다. 그 활동가들은 어떤 무기도 소지하지 않았음에도 이스라엘 측은 ”하마스로 무기가 전달되는 것을 막기 위해“ 그들을 구금했다고 주장한다.
손바닥으로 하늘을 가리려는 거짓말이다. 진실은 이스라엘이 가자지구에서 기근을 일으켜 팔레스타인인들을 살해하고, 구호식량을 무기화하려 한다는 것이다.
어린이들을 포함한 팔레스타인인들이 학살과 기아로 신음하는 이때에 만찬이 가당키나 한가? 우리는 인종 학살을 옹호하고, 오늘의 만찬을 주최한 주한 이스라엘 대사관을 강력히 규탄한다.
오늘 만찬에 참가하는 국내외 인사들 또한 부끄러운 줄 알아야 한다. 이스라엘이 팔레스타인인들을 대상으로 살상무기와 인공지능을 실험하며 축적한 기술과 부에 군침을 흘리며 그것으로 득을 보려는 것만큼 인류의 양심에 반하는 일이 또 어디 있겠는가?
이스라엘 지지자들은 이스라엘 비판이 유대인 혐오라고 주장한다. 그러나 팔레스타인 연대 운동이 반대하는 것은 인종 학살과 그것의 바탕이 되는 시온주의 프로젝트이지, 유대인들이 아니다. 많은 유대인들이 이스라엘 규탄에 함께하고 있다는 것이 이를 가장 크게 뒷받침한다.
이스라엘은 세계 유대인들의 안식처를 자임하지만, 실제로는 오히려 유대인들에게 가장 위험한 곳이 됐다. 수백만 팔레스타인인들을 총칼로 위협해야만 지탱될 수 있는 나라에서 안전을 기대하기란 어렵다. 이스라엘이 존재하기 전 오랫동안 팔레스타인에서는 아랍인과 유대인 등이 평화롭게 공존해 왔다. 이스라엘의 탄생은 이런 공존을 어렵게 만들었을 뿐이다.
오히려 전 세계의 수많은 유대인들이 이스라엘 규탄에 목소리를 높이고 글로벌 팔레스타인 연대 운동에 함께하고 있다. 이스라엘이 인종 학살을 자행하고 있다고 보는 미국의 유대인들의 비율 또한 크게 높아졌다.
이스라엘은 미국을 비롯해 수많은 강대국의 지원을 받고 있지만, 팔레스타인인들을 굴복시키려는 이스라엘의 의도는 관철되지 않고 있다.
평범한 사람들은 이스라엘의 잔혹 행위에 눈감지 않고 있고, 이스라엘과 손잡은 지도자들의 부도덕함을 잊지 않고 있다. 이곳 한국에서도 이스라엘에 대한 호감도가 크게 추락했고, 이스라엘이 피해자라는 거짓말을 더는 믿지 않는 사람들이 빠르게 늘고 있다.
전 세계 양심의 목소리는 이렇게 외치고 있다. 이스라엘은 인종 학살을 멈춰라! 가자지구 봉쇄를 해제하라! 구호품을 반입하라!
우리는 팔레스타인이 요르단강에서 지중해까지 독립할 때까지 팔레스타인인들과 연대하기를 멈추지 않을 것이다.

‘팔레스타인인들과 연대하는 사람들’

Like many others, I am here today filled with anger. I join here alongside countless medical professionals who share the same deep sorrow and outrage.
At this very moment, Gaza is experiencing the worst famine in its history.All 2.1 million residents are suffering from severe food shortages, and around 470,000 people are in a state of famine – classified as “catastrophic” under international standards.
Doctors say, “We no longer see babies with healthy weight.” Many infants are being born underweight, premature, and are suffering from growth disorders.
There have been famines in history, but those were mostly caused by civil wars or droughts. What is happening in Gaza is different—it is a deliberately induced famine, created by Israel’s blockade of borders and obstruction of humanitarian aid. This is not simply a famine; it is a deliberate act of mass extermination.
24% of children under five in Gaza and especially as many as 47% in northern Gaza, are suffering from acute malnutrition. Medically, this means they are at high risk of death, and even if they survive, they are likely to suffer from severe long-term complications. And yet, the Israeli military has destroyed hospitals throughout Gaza—especially in the north, where every single hospital has been rendered unusable. Those suffering from severe malnutrition have nowhere to receive treatment.
This is quite literally a second Nakba—a brutal crime by Israel to completely annihilate Palestinians.
How can we not be enraged when Israel holds a so-called “Independence Day” banquet today—a day that marks the Nakba, the catastrophe, for Palestinians? This is a celebration built on the blood of massacred residents of Gaza. It is a cruel mockery of Palestinians dying from starvation, and a feast that exposes the inhumanity of Israel.
Today is also the day Greta Thunberg and many others attempted to enter Gaza with humanitarian aid to draw international attention to the crisis and were intercepted and detained by Israeli forces. If this banquet is allowed to proceed without any condemnation, protest, or resistance, it would be an insult to every person of conscience on this land.
Just as countless people around the world are outraged and denouncing these crimes, Israel’s genocide will never be justified—and it will never succeed.
We warn the Israeli government and all those who partake in this immoral celebration: we will never stop resisting. With unwavering determination to fight until Palestine is free, let us raise our voices
Lift the blockade on Gaza! Stop Genocide!

Hello. My name is Im Jae-kyung, and I am a member of Yalla Yonsei, the Palestinian Solidarity Club at Yonsei University. Nice to meet you. It is disgusting—utterly disgusting! 2.3 million people in Gaza are starving to death. Israel is even blocking humanitarian aid and deliberately starving Palestinians. How can anyone hold a dinner banquet in the midst of such a massacre? How can you swallow your food?
They said that tonight’s banquet is meant to celebrate Israel’s so-called “Independence day.” But there is nothing to celebrate about the establishment of Israel. Israel came to Palestine to occupy Palestinian land, massacred and expel hundreds of thousands, and built its state on the ruins of those atrocities.
Israel is a colonial occupying state. It is by no means a normal country. Zionists who founded Israel did not come to coexist with Palestinians. Rather they cooperated with the Nazis and worked with anti-Semitic Western powers to force stateless Jews to settle in Palestine.
Israel is a state that only functions through the ongoing massacre and oppression of millions of Palestinians. This war has laid bare the true nature of the Israeli state, and hundreds of millions of people around the world are outraged at its genocide. Among them are many Jewish people. Countless Jews are shouting, “Do not commit genocide in the name of Jews.” Israel does not represent Jewish people.
Ambassador Rafael Harpaz and the Israeli Embassy in South Korea, which organized tonight’s banquet, have long spread propaganda in Korean society that shifts the blame for Israel’s clear genocide and war crimes onto Palestinian freedom fighters and ordinary civilians.
The Israeli Embassy is also closely connected with far-right groups in Korea. Ambassador Harpaz spoke at a conservative conference hosted by the Truth Forum, which had led a rally at Seoul National University opposing Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment. When the Truth Forum issued a statement supporting Israel, the Israeli Embassy visited them in person to express thanks.
We also condemn the Korean businesspeople, politicians, and university officials who enthusiastically attended this horrific banquet. You have shaken the bloodstained hands of Israel’s representatives. Are you so eager to get your hands on Israel’s advanced technology and weapons expertise? That technology has developed through horrific so-called “field testing” on Palestinians.
Even Yonsei University, where our student club is based, is not free from responsibility. President Dong-Sup Yoon of Yonsei University invited the Israeli ambassador in March and proposed expanding academic exchanges with Israeli universities. But Israel’s educational institutions are not innocent—they are accomplices and even perpetrators of Israel’s crimes.
Numerous Israeli universities have cooperated, both directly and indirectly, with the Israeli military. That same military designates Palestinian schools as armed centers and bombs them. Over 70% of Gaza’s schools have been attacked by the Israeli military. What can we possibly gain from partnering with institutions that research how to wipe out Palestinians? We condemn Yonsei President Yoon and all Korean corporations, politicians, and universities that are joining hands with Israel’s spokespeople, whose hands are soaked in blood.
On May 15, university students in Korea held a protest and march in Sinchon to remember the Nakba, the catastrophe that occurred when Zionists founded Israel. Lots of leaflets were handed out with strong student support, and students marched through the streets of Sinchon. As the days go by, it becomes ever clearer that Israel is a state of genocide. Criticism of Israel and its enablers will only grow stronger here in Korea. Students will expose Israel’s true face and become the voices, hands, and feet of the Palestinian cause.
From the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, we will never stop standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people until the liberation of all Palestine is achieved.

Right now, a celebration of the so-called ‘founding’ of Israel is taking place in the center of downtown Seoul. I can’t help but feel a great deal of anger.
I have only one thing to say to the Israeli Embassy in Seoul for organizing this event: Stop the genocide of Palestinians, leave this country immediately. We never welcome the terrorist state of Israel and its birth.
The Israeli Embassy in Seoul emphasizes that Israel and South Korea have something in common: a security crisis. They’ll probably say something similar at tonight’s banquet, but it’s a smokescreen to cover up Israel’s indelible characteristic, which is its nature as a settler colonial state.
Israel’s founding is inextricably linked to the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Thanks to the work of many scholars and global Palestine solidarity actions, more and more Koreans are realizing this.
In fact, at the end of 2023, the Israeli embassy tried to garner sympathy by creating a video where they tried to draw a parallel between Hamas’ attacks and fictitious scenario of North Korea’s invasion of Seoul. As they met with huge backlash from ordinary Koreans saying, “we didn’t steal other people’s land like Israel,” the embassy had to take the video down itself, which was another humiliating display.
More and more Koreans are looking at the Palestinian resistance groups, such as Hamas, and remembering the armed struggle against the Japanese occupation. We are experiencing this change through the weekly Palestine solidarity actions that have been going on for two years. South Korea is also the country with the highest increase in unfavorability towards Israel.
Right now, people around the world are calling for cutting all ties with Israel. On the other hand, the people at tonight’s banquet are supporting Israel’s genocide by doing business with Israeli defense and artificial intelligence companies and hoping to strengthen cooperation. Although they and we are on the same Korean soil, we have little in common; we have more in common with the activists on Madleen, like Greta Thunberg, who bravely sailed to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
No one can justify collaborating with Israel, and that includes Lee Jae-myeong’s administration.
I don’t know if the tonight’s banquet included any government or ruling party officials, but given that Lee has consistently expressed interest in Israel’s defense and artificial intelligence industries, and in February, as leader of the opposition, Lee met with the Israeli ambassador in person to seek cooperation, it seems very likely. If so, it would be a betrayal to people’s aspirations towards the progressive social change.
But Israel is a state that must go away for the sake of peace in the Middle East, for the sake of the coexistence of Jews, Arabs, and all people. We will not seek cooperation with such a state, but will continue to fight to isolate Israel internationally and for Palestinian independence from the river to the sea.

Genocidal state of Israel built upon ethnic cleansing
Stop the genocide of Palestinians!
Lift the Gaza blockade!
Israel’s foundation was built upon ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. The Zionist project of establishing a racist, Jewish-only state on historic Palestinian land led to the murder of thousands of Palestinians in 1948 and the expulsion of up to one million Palestinians from their homes. The so-called “Independence Day” was created to cover up these horrific crimes.
There is a more appropriate name for this day. It is the Nakba, the catastrophe. The founding of Israel is nothing to celebrate.
The past 77 years of history since its founding have only made it clearer that Israel is a state that will stop at nothing to ethnically cleanse Palestinians. Moreover, since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, while blocking all aid from entering, pushing 2.3 million people to the brink of starvation.
Just today, Israeli forces seized Madleen, a ship of Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s which was headed to Gaza with aid, and detained all of the Palestine Solidarity activists aboard, including Greta Thunberg. The activists were not carrying any weapons, but Israel claims they were detained to “prevent the transfer of weapons to Hamas.”
This is a blatant lie. The truth is that Israel is trying to create a famine in Gaza, killing Palestinians and weaponizing aid.
What’s the point of a feast when Palestinians, including children, are being slaughtered and starving?
We strongly condemn the Israeli Embassy in Seoul for defending genocide and hosting this dinner.
The international and domestic dignitaries attending this dinner should be ashamed of themselves. What could be more offensive to the conscience of humanity than for Israel to experiment with weapons of mass destruction and artificial intelligence on Palestinians, and then to salivate over and profit from the technology and wealth it has amassed?
Israel’s supporters claim that criticism against Israel is antisemitic. But it is the genocide and the underlying Zionist project that the Palestine Solidarity Movement opposes, not the Jews. The fact that so many Jews join in the condemnation of Israel is a major indication of this.
Israel claims to be a haven for the Jews across the globe, but in reality it has become the most dangerous place for them. It’s hard to feel safe in a country that can only be sustained by threatening millions of Palestinians at gunpoint. Arabs and Jews lived together peacefully in Palestine for many years before Israel existed. The creation of Israel has only made this coexistence more difficult.
On the contrary, many Jews around the world have become vocal in their condemnation of Israel and have joined the global Palestine solidarity movement. The percentage of American Jews who believe Israel is committing genocide has also increased significantly.
Israel is backed by numerous powers, including the United States, but Israel’s intentions to subjugate Palestinians are not working.
Ordinary people are not turning a blind eye to Israel’s atrocities and have not forgotten the immorality of its global leaders who support them. Even in South Korea, favorability ratings for Israel have dropped significantly, and the number of people who no longer believe the lie that Israel is the victim is growing rapidly.
The voices of conscience around the world are clearer than ever. Israel, stop the genocide! Lift the blockade of Gaza! Bring in the aid!
We will not stop standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people until Palestine is free from the river to the sea.
