이스라엘은 가자지구를 굶겨 죽이고 있습니다
“우리에겐 물과 소금밖에 없습니다”
이스라엘이 2023년 10월 팔레스타인 가자지구를 공격하며 시작된 학살이 1년 9개월째 계속되고 있습니다. 지금까지 팔레스타인인 6만 명이 이스라엘군에게 죽임을 당했고, 이 중 절반은 여성과 어린이입니다. 이스라엘이 팔레스타인인들의 절멸을 목표로 인종 학살을 벌이면서 가자지구의 90퍼센트가 파괴됐습니다.
하지만 이스라엘은 단순히 폭격과 지상전으로 민간인들을 학살하는 데 그치지 않고, 인구 230만 명에 달하는 가자지구 전체를 아사로 몰아 넣고 있습니다. 이스라엘은 극히 제한적으로나마 가자지구로 반입되던 구호품과 물자를 지난 3월부터 완전히 차단했습니다. 가자지구 현지 의료진에 따르면 임산부 6만 명이 끼니를 구하지 못하고, 영유아들의 분유도 고갈됐다고 합니다. 가자지구 아동 60만 명이 영양실조 상태이고, 지금까지 110명이 넘는 팔레스타인인들이 아사했습니다. 이 수치는 식량이 완전히 고갈된 현 상태에서 치솟을 것으로 우려됩니다.
이스라엘 정부는 ‘가자인도주의재단(GHF)’라는 단체를 통해 가자 내 민간인들에게 구호품을 충분히 제공하고 있다고 합니다. 하지만 이는 완전히 거짓입니다. 세계식량계획(WFP)에 따르면 가자지구 인구 3분의 1 가까이는 며칠 동안 한 끼도 먹지 못하고 있습니다. 이스라엘 정부가 운영하는 GHF의 식량 배급소는 “죽음의 덫”입니다. 지난 두 달 동안 GHF의 구호품 배급소에서 이스라엘군의 총격에 죽임 당한 팔레스타인인들의 수가 1000명이 넘습니다.
그럼에도 미국을 비롯한 서방 정부들은 이스라엘에 제동을 걸기는커녕, 군사∙외교적 지원을 제공하고 있습니다. 트럼프는 국제형사재판소에서 전쟁 범죄 혐의로 기소된 이스라엘 총리 네타냐후를 버젓이 백악관으로 초청하고, 미 의회는 지난주 이스라엘에게 5억 달러 규모의 군사 원조안을 승인했습니다. 미국 트럼프 정부는 명백한 학살 공범입니다.
그러나 이스라엘과 학살 공범들에 맞서서 전 세계 곳곳에서 자국 정부의 학살 지원에 항의하고, 팔레스타인에 연대 행동이 벌어지고 있습니다. 이탈리아, 프랑스, 그리스의 노동자들은 이스라엘로 향하던 군사 물품 선적, 수송을 거부했고, 세계 주요 도시에서 수많은 사람들이 가자지구를 굶주림으로 몰아 넣는 이스라엘에 항의하며 배고픔을 상징하는 냄비를 두드리며 거리로 나서고 있습니다.
한국 정부와 기업들도 이스라엘을 지원해 온 책임에서 자유롭지 못합니다. 최근 유엔 보고관이 밝힌 ‘가자 전쟁 지원, 불법 정착촌 관여 기업’ 명단에는 한국의 HD현대와 두산이 포함됐습니다. 이 기업들의 중장비는 서안지구 정착촌 건설 등에 사용되면서 팔레스타인 땅을 파괴하고 있기도 합니다. 한화, LIG, 한국항공우주산업(KAI)과 같은 기업들은 이스라엘과 군사 무기 교류를 합니다.

Israel is starving Gaza to death
“We only have water and salt to eat”
The massacre that began with Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip in October 2023 has continued for one year and nine months. So far, 60,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military, half of them women and children. As Israel carries out a genocide aimed at the extermination of Palestinians, 90 percent of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed.
However, Israel is not merely massacring civilians through airstrikes and ground offensives—it is starving the entire Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million people. Since March, Israel has completely blocked the entry of humanitarian aid and supplies, which had been allowed only in extremely limited amounts. According to local medical staff in Gaza, 60,000 pregnant women are unable to obtain meals, and baby formula for infants has run out. Six hundred thousand children in Gaza are suffering from malnutrition, and more than 110 Palestinians have already died from starvation. This number is feared to rise sharply as food supplies have been entirely depleted.
The Israeli government claims that a group called the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)” is providing sufficient aid to civilians in Gaza. However, this is completely false. According to the World Food Programme (WFP), nearly one-third of Gaza’s population has gone days without a single meal. The food distribution centers operated by GHF are “death traps.” In the past two months alone, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been shot and killed by Israeli forces at these distribution centers.
Nevertheless, the United States and other Western governments are not restraining Israel but are instead offering military and diplomatic support. Trump invited Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu—indicted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes—to the White House, and the U.S. Congress last week approved a $500 million military aid package for Israel. The Trump administration is clearly complicit in genocide.
In response, people around the world are rising up against Israel and its accomplices. Protests and solidarity actions for Palestine are spreading globally, condemning their own governments’ support for the massacre. Workers in Italy, France, and Greece have refused to load or transport military goods bound for Israel. In major cities worldwide, large crowds have taken to the streets, banging pots to symbolize hunger and denounce Israel’s starvation of Gaza.
The South Korean government and corporations are not free from responsibility in supporting Israel. A recent UN report listed South Korea’s HD Hyundai and Doosan among the companies involved in supporting the Gaza war and illegal settlements. The heavy machinery of these companies has been used in settlement construction in the West Bank, contributing to the destruction of Palestinian land. Companies such as Hanwha, LIG, and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) are engaged in military arms exchanges with Israel.
The tragedy of genocide, occupation, and horrific starvation must end as soon as possible. Let us stand together for the liberation of Palestine!
