6월 9일 새벽, 이스라엘 군은 팔레스타인 가자지구로 향하던 자유선단연합 소속의 매들린 호를 나포했다. 이스라엘군은 드론으로 화학약품을 뿌리고 통신을 방해한 후 매들린 호에 침입해, 공해상에서 탑승자들을 납치하고서 억류했다.
이 배에는 스웨덴 출신의 기후 활동가 그레타 툰베리, 배우 리암 커닝엄, 팔레스타인계 프랑스인 리마 하산 유럽의회 의원 등 12명이 탑승하고 있었다. 이들은 팔레스타인 가자지구에 인도적 지원을 전달하고, 계속되는 봉쇄를 해제하라고 요구하며 항해를 시작했다.
이스라엘은 가자지구 전역을 감옥처럼 둘러싼 채, 식량과 약품조차 들어가지 못하게 틀어막고 있다. 병원에는 약이 없고, 아이들은 물과 식량이 없어 죽어간다. 이스라엘이 지난 3월 재개한 전쟁 때문에 230만 명 가자지구 주민 대부분이 기아 위기에 처해있다. 이러한 비극을 막기 위해 매들린 호에 탑승한 이들이 바다를 건넜고, 그 평화적 노력에 이스라엘은 총과 “납치”로 응답했다.
우리는 인도적 지원마저 거부하면서, 오히려 가자 봉쇄 해제를 요구하는 평화적 활동가들을 구금한 이스라엘을 규탄한다.

The IDF stormed and intercepted the Madleen, a Gaza-bound ship belonging to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, in the early hours of 9 June. Israeli forces used drones to spray chemicals, disrupted communications, and abducted all crew members on board in international waters.
The ship was carrying 12 people, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, actor Liam Cunningham, and French-Palestinian Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan. They set sail to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza and to demand an end to the ongoing blockade.
Israel has surrounded the entire Gaza Strip like a prison, blocking the entry of even basic necessities such as food and medicine. Hospitals are out of supplies, and children are dying from lack of water and food. Since Israel resumed its war in March, all 2.3 million people in Gaza have been facing imminent famine. The people on the Madleen crossed the sea to stop this tragedy, and Israel responded to their peaceful efforts with guns and abductions.
We condemn Israel for rejecting humanitarian aid and abducting peaceful activists calling for an end to the Gaza blockade.
