🧵 타트리즈 하루 교실 1회차가 성황리에 열렸습니다. 지난 7월 11일 토요일, 서울 경복궁 인근에서 타트리즈 하루 교실 1회차가 드디어 문을 열었습니다! 무더운 폭염과 극심한 교통 체증에도 불구하고, 정말 많은 분들이 참여해 주신 덕분에 첫 단추를 성공적으로 꿸 수 있었습니다.
정말 다양한 배경을 가진 참가자분들이 전통 자수에 담긴 깊은 의미를 직접 이해하고 체험해 보고자 한자리에 모여주셨는데요. 가족, 친구, 연인과 함께 손을 잡고 찾아주신 모습들이 특히나 인상 깊었습니다.
💡 이번 하루 교실의 교육자로 나서주신 재한 팔레스타인인 미나 님은 타트리즈에 담긴 오랜 전통과 역사를 생생하게 설명해 주셨습니다. 점령국가 이스라엘은 팔레스타인의 문화와 역사, 그리고 그들의 정신을 짓밟고 강탈하려 수많은 시도를 해왔지만, 팔레스타인인들의 굳건함은 이를 유구하게 지켜오고 있습니다. 타트리즈에는 바로 이러한 점령에 맞선 저항의 정신이 고스란히 깃들어 있습니다.
미나 님의 깊이 있는 해설 덕분에, 참가자들은 타트리즈가 가진 단순한 아름다움을 넘어 그 진짜 의미와 역사, 지역별 종류, 그리고 그 속에 녹아있는 ‘저항의 의미’까지 뜻깊게 이해할 수 있는 귀한 시간을 가질 수 있었습니다.
🪡 이어진 직접 자수 놓기 체험을 통해 참가자들은 실과 천을 촘촘히 이으며 마음 깊이 연대의 의미를 새겼습니다. ‘팔레스타인인들과 연대하는 사람들’은 참가자분들이 일상으로 돌아가서도 자수를 이어 나가고, 더 많은 이들에게 이 경험이 전해지기를 바라는 마음을 담았습니다. 정성스런 설명서가 포함된 자수 키트는 주최 측의 든든한 자원봉사단 ‘팔봉이’와 함께 직접 제작하여 모든 참가자분께 배포해 드렸습니다.
👗 더불어 재한 팔레스타인인 나리만 님의 팔레스타인 전통 의복에 대한 설명, 현장에서 판매된 후원 굿즈, 전시된 의복들을 향한 관심도 정말 뜨거웠습니다. 참가자들은 전시된 전통 의복을 직접 착용해 보고 사진을 찍으며, 그 속에 담긴 문화적 무게와 의미를 다시 한번 되새기기도 했습니다.
🔥 혹시 모를 취소 자리를 기다리는 대기자분들이 가득할 정도로 행사에 대한 관심이 뜨겁습니다. 그만큼 한국 사회 안에서 팔레스타인의 문화와 전통에 대한 관심이 얼마나 뜨거운지 여실히 느낄 수 있었습니다. 우리의 연대는 이처럼 서로의 문화를 경험하고 이해하는 과정 속에서 분명 더욱 넓고 단단해질 수 있으리라 믿습니다.
🏢 지난 11일에는 현장 대기자분들까지 계셨을 정도로 열기가 대단했는데요. 이에 힘입어 주최 측은 다가오는 7월 18일 2회차 하루 교실의 장소를 더욱 넓은 곳으로 변경하여 진행하게 됐습니다! 앞으로도 이어질 행사에 많은 관심과 성원을 부탁드립니다.

🧵 The 1st Tatreez One-Day Workshop was a resounding success. On Saturday, July 11th, the first session of the Tatreez One-Day Workshop finally opened near Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul! Despite the sweltering heatwave and severe traffic jam, we were able to successfully kick off the program thanks to the incredible number of participants.
People from all walks of life gathered in one place to experience and understand the deep meaning embedded in traditional embroidery. It was particularly heartwarming to see participants coming together hand-in-hand with their families, friends, and partners.
💡 Mina, a Palestinian in Korea who served as the instructor for this session, vividly explained the long-standing tradition and history woven into Tatreez. While the occupying state of Israel has made countless attempts to trample upon and steal Palestinian culture, history, and spirit, the steadfastness of Palestinians has preserved it through the ages. Tatreez itself embodies this very spirit of resistance against the occupation.
Thanks to Mina’s insightful commentary, participants had a valuable opportunity to look beyond the simple beauty of Tatreez and gain a meaningful understanding of its true significance, history, regional variations, and the spirit of resistance woven into it.
🪡 In the hands-on embroidery session that followed, participants stitched threads through fabric, deeply carving the meaning of solidarity into their hearts. PSP hoped that participants would continue embroidering even after returning to their daily lives, spreading this experience to even more people. The embroidery kits, which included detailed instruction guides, were carefully packaged and distributed to all participants with the help of ‘Pal-bong-i,’ the volunteer group of PSP.
👗 There was also enthusiastic interest in the explanation of traditional Palestinian attire by Nareman, another Palestinian in Korea, as well as the fundraising merchandise sold on-site and the garments on display. Participants tried on the displayed traditional clothing and took photos, once again reflecting on the cultural weight and significance carried within them.
🔥 The enthusiasm for the event is so immense that there is a long waiting list of people hoping for a spot in case of cancellations. This clearly shows how deep the interest in Palestinian culture and tradition has grown within Korean society. We believe that our solidarity will surely grow wider and stronger through these shared experiences and mutual cultural understanding.
🏢 The energy was so incredible on July 11th that we even had people waiting at the venue for walk-in spots. Thanks to this overwhelming support, the organizers have decided to move the upcoming second session on July 18th to a much larger venue! We ask for your continued interest and support for our future events.
