한국 최초의 팔레스타인 연대 동아리 ‘서울대 수박’의 공동 설립자 주마나의 졸업전시회가 7월 9일부터 14일까지 진행됩니다.
주마나의 프로젝트 ‘알 마나라(Al-Manara)’는 지식과 창의성을 밝히는 등대와 같은 역할을 하는 공공도서관을 제안합니다.
‘알 마나라’는 아랍어로 등대(Beacon of Light)를 뜻하며, 단순한 도서관을 넘어 지식과 창의성의 중심이자 공동체를 연결하는 공간을 지향합니다.
이 프로젝트는 청년들이 미래를 이끌어 갈 수 있도록 교육과 배움의 공간을 제안합니다. 또한 이슬람 황금기의 ‘지혜의 집(House of Wisdom)’이 남긴 지적 유산과, ‘빛은 곧 지식’이라는 아브라함계 전통의 의미를 건축으로 풀어냈습니다.
특히 도시의 격자형 도시계획과 메카를 향하는 키블라(Qiblah)의 방향성을 연결해, 지역의 역사와 문화, 공동체의 삶을 존중하는 새로운 공간 질서를 제안한 점이 인상적입니다.

The graduation exhibition of Joumana, co-founder of SNU Soobak—the first Palestinian solidarity club on a Korean university campus—is being held from July 9th to 14th.
Joumana’s project, “Al-Manara,” proposes a public library that serves as a beacon of knowledge and creativity.
Al-Manara, which means “Beacon of Light” in Arabic, is envisioned as more than just a library. It is designed to be a space that fosters knowledge and creativity while bringing the community together.
The project envisions a place of education and learning that empowers young people to lead the future. It also translates into architecture the intellectual legacy of the House of Wisdom during the Islamic Golden Age, as well as the Abrahamic tradition that “light is knowledge.”
One particularly compelling aspect of the project is its proposal to connect the city’s orthogonal street grid with the orientation of the Qiblah, the direction of Makkah. In doing so, it presents a new spatial order that respects the region’s history, culture, and community life.
