🙏 일평생 우리 사회의 생명, 진보, 그리고 정의를 위해 양심 있는 활동을 해 오신 우석균 선생님께서 소천하셨습니다. 한국 진보, 전쟁 반대 운동의 소중한 어르신이자 동지가 너무 빠르게 우리 곁을 떠나셔 애통할 따름입니다. 고인의 명복을 빕니다.
🏥 우석균 선생님은 인도주의실천의사협의회 공동대표와 보건의료단체연합 공동 운영위원장을 역임하셨고, 지난해 6월 29일 투병으로 쇠약해진 상황에서도 팔레스타인 연대 집회에 참가해 인종학살을 규탄하고 저항과 연대를 외치셨습니다.
🤲 전쟁 반대의 목소리가 한국 사회에 울려 퍼지고, 연대의 목소리가 모이도록 한평생 헌신하셨습니다. 이라크전 당시, 이라크로 직접 의료 활동을 직접 다녀오실 정도로 평화를 위해 몸소 실천하셨습니다.
🇵🇸 선생님의 명복을 빌며, 생전 마지막 연설을 공유합니다. “가자 민중과의 연대”라는 선생님의 호소를 잊지 않고 더 큰 연대가 모이길 바랍니다.
⚫️ It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we share this news.
🙏 Mr. Woo Seok-gyun, who dedicated his entire life to the causes of life, progress, and justice in our society with unwavering conscience and commitment, has passed away. We are devastated by the loss of a cherished elder and comrade of Korea’s progressive and anti-war movements, who has left us far too soon. May he rest in peace.
🏥 Mr. Woo served as Co-Chair of the Association of Physicians for Humanism and Co-Chair of the Steering Committee of the Korean Alliance of Health and Medical Organizations. Even while weakened by illness last June 29, he joined a Palestine solidarity rally, condemning genocide and calling for resistance and solidarity.
🤲 Throughout his life, he devoted himself to ensuring that voices against war would resonate throughout Korean society and that voices of solidarity would come together. During the Iraq War, he put his principles into action by traveling to Iraq himself to provide medical assistance, embodying his commitment to peace.
🇵🇸 As we mourn his passing, we would like to share what became his final public speech. We hope that his appeal for “solidarity with the people of Gaza” will not be forgotten, and that even broader solidarity will continue to grow in the spirit of his lifelong commitment.
