오늘 우리는 무거운 마음으로 이 자리에 모였습니다. 우리가 익히 알고 있는 수십년 동안 이어진 점령 때문만이 아니라, 지난 몇 주 동안 벌어진 잔혹한 일들 때문이기도 합니다.
이란과 이스라엘이 주고받는 미사일 공격들, 한밤중의 폭격, 미사일 요격률, 온갖 지정학적 문제들로 전 세계 언론의 헤드라인들이 채워지는 와중에 보다 어둡고 조용한 재앙이 벌어지고 있습니다. 우리는 전 세계의 시선을 그것이 마땅히 향해야 할 곳으로 돌리고자 이 자리에 모였습니다. 바로 가자와 레바논 남부입니다.
전 세계가 텔아비브와 테헤란의 하늘을 올려다보는 사이에 이스라엘 전쟁 기구는 지역에서 벌어지는 혼란을 틈타 가자와 레바논 남부에서 우리의 숨통을 더욱 강하게 옥죄고 있습니다.
최근의 분쟁이 소위 “자제 국면”에 접어들었다지만 그저 양상만 조금 바뀌었을 뿐, 학살은 멈추지 않았습니다. 드론들은 여전히 하늘을 맴돌고 있고 저격수들이 곳곳에 도사리고 있습니다. 그리고 지난주에는 칸유니스와 라파의 거주 구역이 완전히 파괴됐습니다. 이는 이란이 쏘아올린 미사일이 아니라 미국이 생산하고 이스라엘 전투기들이 투하한 폭탄 때문이었습니다.
분명히 말씀드리지만, 소위 “저강도 전쟁”은 거짓말입니다. 봉쇄 하에서는 그 강도가 높든지 낮든지 모든 공격이 곧 사형선고나 다름없습니다.
지금 가자의 어머니들은 무너진 학교의 잔해를 맨손으로 파헤치고 있습니다. 응급구조원들은 시신을 옮길 가방이 부족합니다. 간신히 유지되는 병원들은 최근 “새로운 국면” 속에서 파편이 박힌 채로 실려오는 아이들로 미어터지고 있습니다. 복도에서는 마취제도 없이 절단수술이 진행됩니다. 발전기의 연료가 없어서 신생아들이 인큐베이터 안에서 죽어가고 있습니다.
세계 지도자들이 근사한 호텔에서 휴전안을 두고 말잔치를 벌이는 동안 가자 현지에서 우리가 겪고 있는 고통은 절대적입니다. 사람들은 오염된 물을 마시고 있고 가족들은 잡초를 끓여 아이들의 허기를 달랩니다. 그리고 매일 밤마다 머리 위로 들려오는 드론 소리를 들으며 “제한적” 공습이 다음에는 자신들의 텐트를 덮치지 않을까 두려움에 떨고 있습니다.
최근 이란-이스라엘 갈등으로 시선이 분산되자 가자와 레바논 남부의 안정도 요원해졌습니다. 시선이 돌려진 사이에 점령 세력에게 인종학살을 계속해도 된다는 신호를 준 것입니다. 세계가 동쪽에서의 분쟁으로 떠들썩한 사이에 서쪽은 지워지고 있습니다.
그러니 무엇을 해야 하겠습니까? 우리는 외면해선 안 됩니다. 이 뉴스들이 그저 흘러가게 내버려 둬서는 안 됩니다.
우리는 이스라엘에 대한 모든 군사적 원조를 즉각 중단할 것을 요구합니다. 우리는 우리의 정부가 지금 벌어지고 있는 일을 있는 그대로 인정하라고, 의도적으로 기아를 조장하는 정책임을 인정하라고 요구합니다. 또 국제형사재판소가 소위 “저강도” 전쟁이 벌어진 지난 한 달이 사실 전쟁 범죄의 지속이었음을 인정하라고 요구합니다.
가자와 레바논 남부의 모든 이들에게 전합니다. 여러분은 잊혀지지 않았습니다. 여러분의 고통은 덜 중요한 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 계속해서 행진하고, 말하고, 모든 봉쇄가 무너지고 모든 영혼이 자유로워질 때까지 싸우기를 멈추지 않을 것입니다.

We gather here today with heavy hearts, not just because of the decades of occupation we already know, but because of what has happened in these last, brutal few weeks.
While the world’s media headlines have been consumed by the missile exchanges between Iran and Israel—the booms in the night, the interception rates, and the geopolitics—a darker, quieter catastrophe has been unfolding. We are here to pull the world’s gaze back to where it belongs: Gaza and Southern Lebanon
While the world watched the sky over Tel Aviv and Tehran, the Israeli war machine—using the cover of regional chaos—intensified its stranglehold on our people in Gaza and Southern Lebanon.
In the supposed “less intense” phase of this latest escalation, the killing did not stop. It simply changed shape. Drones are still circling. Snipers are still watching. And just last week, residential blocks in Khan Younis and Rafah were flattened not by Iranian missiles, but by American-made bombs dropped by Israeli jets.
Let me be clear: The “less intensive war” is a lie. When you are living under siege, any intensity is a death sentence.
Right now, mothers in Gaza are digging through the rubble of schools with their bare hands. Paramedics are running out of body bags. The hospitals—already on life support—are overflowing with children who have shrapnel wounds from this “new phase.” We are seeing amputations performed in corridors without anesthesia. We are seeing newborns dying in incubators because of the lack of fuel for generators.
The world is debating ceasefire deals in fancy hotels, but on the ground, the suffering is absolute. People are drinking polluted water. Families are boiling grass to feed their children. And every single night, they hear the drones overhead, terrified that the “limited” strikes will hit their tents next.
The recent distraction of the Iran-Israel conflict did not bring relief to Gaza and Southern Lebanon. It gave the occupying power a green light to continue the genocide under the radar. While the world argued about escalation in the East, the West was being erased.
So what do we do? We do not look away. We refuse to let the news cycle move on.
We demand an immediate cessation of all military aid to Israel. We demand that our governments call this what it is: a deliberate starvation campaign. And we demand that the International Criminal Court treat the last month of “low intensity” war as exactly what it is—continued war crimes.
To the people of Gaza and Southern Lebanon: You are not forgotten. your pain is no less severe. We will not stop marching, we will not stop speaking, and we will not stop fighting until every siege is broken and every soul is free.
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!
