팔레스타인에서 자라며 제가 배운 ‘강한 여성’의 정의는 매우 특별했습니다. 팔레스타인에서 강한 여성이 된다는 것은 헤아릴 수 없는 인내와 끈기를 가진 여성이 되어야 함을 의미합니다.
고통과 고난 속에서도 웃음을 잃지 않고, 결코 포기하지 않는 사람 말입니다. 우리에게 나약해질 시간은 결코 없었습니다. 여성들은 누군가를 지지할 뿐 아니라 스스로 리더가 되어야 했기 때문입니다.
세계 여성의 날인 오늘, 저는 모두가 어떤 의미에서든 가장 강인한 여성들, 바로 회복력 있는 팔레스타인의 여성들을 기억해 주기를 바랍니다.”

78년간 이어진 이스라엘의 점령과 인종청소, 900일 가까이 지속되는 공격과 학살은 팔레스타인 여성의 삶과 존엄을 짓밟고 있습니다. 2023년 10월 이래 최소 7만여 명의 팔레스타인인이 목숨을 잃었으며, 그중 절반 이상이 여성과 아이들입니다.
가자지구에서는 매시간 여성 한 명이 죽어갑니다(유엔 보고서, 2025년 5월 기준).
이스라엘은 ‘휴전’이라는 기만 아래 가자지구를 봉쇄한 채 공습을 이어가고 있으며, 서안지구 점령을 더욱 확대하고 있습니다. 미국의 트럼프는 이스라엘을 전폭 지원하며, 가자지구 식민 통치를 위한 ‘가자 계획’과 ‘평화이사회’를 강행하며 팔레스타인인들의 자결권을 유린하고 있습니다.
깨끗한 물과 식량, 생리대 등 위생용품의 부재는 여성의 건강을 위협하고 감염 위험을 극도로 높이고 있습니다. 병원 파괴로 인해 산모들은 위험한 환경에서 출산하고, 마취제도 없는 제왕절개 수술을 견뎌야 하며, 오염된 텐트에서 산후조리를 합니다. 산모의 영양실조는 신생아 기아라는 비극으로 이어지고 있습니다.
가자지구 학교 80% 이상이 파괴되고 모든 대학이 공격받으며 교육 체계는 붕괴되었습니다. 여성들의 미래와 꿈이 짓밟히고 있습니다.
팔레스타인인들은 SNS에 희생자, 열사의 추모글을 올렸다는 이유만으로 재판도 없이 구금됩니다. 구금자들은 구타와 모욕적인 신체 수색, 성폭력 위험에 노출됩니다. 가자에서 이스라엘군과 접촉한 여성들이 ‘실종’됐다는 보고들도 있습니다.
하지만 팔레스타인 여성들은 침묵하지 않습니다. 이스라엘과 이를 지원하는 서방 세력에 맞서, 그들은 존재 자체로 저항하며 끈질긴 생명력을 이어가고 있습니다. 그들의 불굴의 정신은 전 세계 시민들에게 불의에 맞설 용기를 주고 있습니다.

Stand in solidarity with Palestinian Women against Colonial Occupation, Ethnic Cleansing, and Oppression!

There was never a time for weakness, as women not only had to support, but also be the leaders. In this day, a day for women, I would like everyone to remember the resilient Palestinian women, the strongest women by every definition.”

For 78 years, Israel’s occupation and ethnic cleansing — and nearly 900 days of ongoing assaults and massacre — have trampled on the lives and dignity of Palestinian women. Since October 2023, at least 70,000 Palestinians have been killed, more than half of them women and children.
In Gaza, one woman dies every hour even now (UN report, as of May 2025).
Under the deception of a so-called “ceasefire,” Israel continues its airstrikes while maintaining a blockade on Gaza and expanding its occupation of the West Bank. Backed fully by former U.S. President Donald Trump, Israel has pushed forward initiatives such as the “Gaza Plan” and the so-called “Board of Peace,” further violating Palestinians’ right to self-determination. Amid unrelenting occupation and violence, women’s lives, fundamental rights, and dignity are under constant threat.
The lack of clean water, food, sanitary pads, and other hygiene supplies gravely endangers women’s health and dramatically increases the risk of infection. With hospitals destroyed, pregnant women are forced to give birth in dangerous conditions. Some endure cesarean sections without anesthesia and recover in contaminated tents. Maternal malnutrition leads to the tragic starvation of newborns.
More than 80% of schools in Gaza have been destroyed, leading to the collapse of the entire education system. The futures and dreams of women are being crushed.
Palestinians are detained without trial simply for posting memorial messages for victims and martyrs on social media. Detainees face beatings, humiliating body searches, and the threat of sexual violence. There are also reports of women in Gaza who went missing after contact with Israeli forces.
Yet Palestinian women refuse to be silenced. In the face of Israel and the Western powers that support it, they resist through their very existence, sustaining their lives with unyielding determination. Their indomitable spirit in the face of oppression inspires people around the world with the courage to stand against injustice.
On International Women’s Day 2026, let us shout together for the liberation and justice of Palestinian women!
